Why should you choose lithium batteries?

Even though there are many battery types for your solar power needs in Northern Rivers, the best application is very clearly becoming lithium batteries for the time being. It has very innovative technology that is designed to last longer and can withstand deeper power cycles. Lithium batteries are also great because they don’t require a lot of maintenance. This is also the case for modern solar panels which need a check based on our guide for how often they should be serviced. Lithium batteries also don’t need extensive venting, like lead acid batteries do, and that makes them less troublesome at installation and for long-term use. Here are more reasons why you should use lithium batteries for your solar power installation

Lithium batteries are much more efficient

Lithium batteries are the most efficient type for solar power storage. Efficiency also means that they can store much more and for much longer. At purchase, certain batteries are only a certain percentage of efficiency to accommodate for varying factors that are unique to each individual usage. Lead acid batteries are only 80-85% efficient based on the model and the condition. Just as a basic (and not realistic) figure, if you have 1,000 watts of solar being directed into the battery, there will only be 800 or so watts available after the charging process.

In comparison, Lithium batteries are much more effective because they offer more than 95% efficiency as a standard guarantee. That means that you’d be much closer to 1 000 watts, more like 950 watts, when it comes to how much power you’ll have available. Lithium batteries can also be charged much faster than other types. If you speak to a solar power expert at Cave Electrical & Solar, you may be able to explore your options for fewer solar panels at installation, thanks to higher battery capacity with a lithium model. We can also help you with the regular maintenance of your panels and other electrical services.

Lithium batteries last much longer

Lithium batteries have also proven themselves as the most durable units for solar power storage because they have the longest life cycle. The cycle of battery usage refers to how many times you can use it to power your property and then be charged up again. Certain batteries have capacity for many more cycles than others and this is exactly what lithium batteries provide. Lead-acid batteries are mostly run to 50% depth of discharge, without negatively affecting their lifespan. Lithium batteries can handle discharges of 80% or more.

Replacement and disposal

Lithium batteries are much lighter than other types of batteries like lead acid types. This means that they are easier to install and change out should it be required. We can also offer you a number of installation options like mounting the battery on a wall and it can be installed in both indoors and outdoors areas. They are very solid machinery, so they won’t need frequent refills or maintenance. They use a combination of organic and inorganic cells, but ultimately they do not have a majority of toxic elements and therefore are much easier to safely dispose of.

Disadvantages of lithium batteries

  • High cost – this type of battery does tend to be more expensive than other battery storage options. But remember that cheaper types, like lead acid batteries, will cost you more in the long run because they have to be replaced more often than long lasting lithium-ion systems.
  • Thermal runaway – there is risk of lithium batteries catching on fire which is called thermal runaway. However, this risk of a properly installed lithium-ion solar battery is slim to none.

These are only a few examples, but you can already see how lithium batteries stand up as the best on all counts. All you need to do is install a battery that can easily match your capacity and you can save money on the overall upfront costs of your modern solar panels. It will last longer, weigh less, and give you more output than other types. We have domestic and commercial services on offer to discuss how solar panels can improve your experience of electricity supply.
